Sonoko Asabuki was born in Tokyo. After studying modern viola, she specialised in historical performance practice and studied baroque violin with Chiara Banchini, Leila Schayegh and Amandine Beyer at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, where she graduated with distinction with a Master of Arts in Musical Performance Early Music. In 2011 she won a 1st prize at the International Wassenaer Competition in Amsterdam. As a chamber musician and soloist, she performs internationally with ensembles such as La Cetra Barockorchester, Gli Angeli Genève, Capricornus Consort Basel, J.S. Bach Stiftung, Capriccio Barockorchester, Les Passions de L'Âme, Bach Collegium Japan. In 2020 her first solo CD with works by G.B. Viviani was released and was awarded «The Record Geijutsu» in Japan.
