Jonas KrebsVioline und Viola
Spot on: contagious playfulness, curiosity and adventures in the wilderness.
Jonas Krebs, born in Zurich, studied at the Bern University of the Arts with Monika Urbaniak, Corina Belcea and Meret Lüthi and completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Pedagogy with distinction. His growing interest in historical performance practice subsequently led him to a Master's degree in Baroque violin and viola at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Shunske Sato, Antoinette Lohmann, Sayuri Yamgata and Emmanuel Resche-Caserta. He focuses on performing on gut strings from the 17th century to romantic works.
Jonas plays in various early music ensembles, including Les Passions de l'Âme, Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, Holland Baroque, Baroque Ensemble Eik en Linde and Philharmonia Amsterdam. He is also a regular first violinist with the Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra.
At masterclasses he has been inspired by renowned musicians such as Rachel Podger, Mayumi Hirasaki, Petra Müllejans, Gottfried von der Goltz and Hansheinz Schneeberger.
Jonas also enjoys devoting himself to research topics on performance practice, especially from the 19th century. He has focused on Bartók (Bachelor's thesis with Kai Köpp) and Mendelssohn (Master's thesis with Johannes Leertouwer) and likes to incorporate this knowledge into his practical work.
In addition, chamber music literature is particularly close to his heart. He performs both in the piano trio Lore Lay Trio, in the Duo Luschaina with guitarist Tobias Krebs as well as violist in the Merla Quartet. For him, the viola is an exciting addition to the violin repertoire.
Jonas strives to find a new approach to old works and to make them accessible to the audience in a creative way. He seeks to build a bridge between the past and the present.
